Abstract

The existing copper based telecommunication networks do not support the increased demand for broadband mobile services such as video-on demand, wireless LAN and mobile computing and this requires the need to develop high capacity mobile communication networks which are capable of delivering broadband signals to remote areas "Over the air", which encourage the engineers and researchers to develop and discover new technologies. Over the past decade there has been substantial progress in the areas of wireless and optical communications. This leads to discuss the emerging technology iFSO (indoor Free Space Optics) also called Optical Wireless (OW). There are several ways to transceiver data in closed environment: Line of sight, wide line of sight and diffuse reflection link. The limitations on the performance of the optical transceiver in confine area, when using the diffuse reflection link is the scattering, absorption on the ceiling and walls, path delay and also the ISI because of the several path ways from reflections. To reduce the absorption or in the other word, to increase the received power several ways exist, which in this project the attempt is to give suggestions on how to implement iFSO in aircraft passenger cabin and show the limitations and also the way to minimize it. The system was simulated by using numerical software (Matlab) and the results of the simulations were modeled.
