Abstract

Thermal comfort is a global issue that relate to indoor environment. Dissatisfaction in thermal environment is expected to occur due to the reaction of residents and the difficult in maintaining a level of comfort at all the times. Preliminary study had been conducted on staffs in Perpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah (PSZ) and the results have showrn the targeted workplaces are unable to provide comfortable temperature to at least 80% respondents. This research has been conducted to relate the staff in PSZ with the level of thermal sensation, thermal comfort, thermal environment, risk of thermal comfort and also to study the factors which have relationship with the level of thermal comfort. To achieve the research objectives, a total of 150 questionnaire have been distributed to all the staff in PSZ and analysis have been conducted by using frequency- distribution analysis. mean score analysis, Mann-Whitener U Test and Spearman Rho Correlation Test. Results of research have shown that thermal comfort of respondents were being differentiated according to time, condition, part of body, and location. Most of the respondents evaluate their workspace is cold and most of the workspaces are unable to provide a comfortable temperature to at least 80% of respondents who work in the workspace. Thermal environment in PSZ has caused a risk to most of the respondents in PSZ. Besides, several factors have been identified which are related to the level of thermal comfort of respondents in PSZ. As conclusio11. this research has provided useful information which is able to aim on the effective and efficient ways for the management to solve the problem of thermal comfort that have been raised in this research.
