Abstract

A new switch structure in which a buried square core polymer waveguides as a key element to form a directional coupler based thermo-optic polymer optical switch is presented. The designed buried square core polymer waveguides cross-section should be optimized for mode matching and coupling with the single mode optical fiber configuration and have large effective index difference by thermo-optic effects. Next the designed 2x2 directional coupler thermo-optic polymer switch will be discussed. The designed and fabricated switch should have low crosstalk and low power consumption.
