Abstract
This paper describes the nature of environmental biotechnology as a scientific discipline and basis of the future environmental control engineering. Iy discusses the structure of environmental biotechnology in the context of the present knowledge development in environmental management and engineering. As a modern entity of scientific knowledge, environmental biotechnology has its disadvantages and problems which are not properly addressed in literature, especially in the context of implementation and operation. This paper illustrates the nature of the problems which can be associated with project errors, design errors, environmental factors, operation and maintenance and environmental regulations. Since this papers is more towards technical aspects, philosophical problems such as bioethics and teosophy are not discussed
