Recently, most of the focus on hydrographic survey technology development has been directed towards multibeam echosounder system. However, some important developments of single beam echosounder system are not neglected because the development of single beam echosounder also changes rapidly. Correcting the observed depths and positioning in a single beam hydrographic data acquisition for the effect of offset and attitude of a survey boat is the most difficult aspect in hydrographic surveying. Beside the tide measurement, these effects are the major error components in hydrographic surveying. Since the mid 1990’s, affordable and accurate motion sensor and gyro compass instruments have significantly reduced these errors.
