Abstract
The guiding of light beam along dielectric layers has stimulated the growth of new class of passive and active components using light guided by films deposited on wafer-like substrates [1]. Because of their small size and low power consumption, it is predicted that such optical components can replace their electrical counterparts in integrated - electronics equipment. Moreover, their optical properties would provide advantages in both bandwidth and immunity from electromagnetic interference or simply known as EMI.
