Wireless local area network (WLAN) applications nowadayshas become more popular especially those operating in the2.4 GHz ISM band. Nowadays, there are a lot of efforts oncombining the WLAN, a/b/g bands together. Research on dualband and multiband antennas has gone tremendousdevelopment throughout the century. This paper describes thedesign of the dual band microstrip antenna using scalingfactor technique and inset feed with the integration of activedevices. The antennas were designed to operate in the indoorWLAN ISM band at 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz. The dimensions ofeach single element of the microstrip antenna, at theseoperating frequencies were calculated using transmission linemodel and their individual S-parameter data. The scalingfactor of 1.05 has been chosen for the design. The antennashave been fabricated on the FR4 microstrip board with er =4.7, substrate thickness of 1.6 mm and tan d = 0.019 andproved to be operating with adequate bandwidth andradiation characteristics.
