Abstract

This paper introduces a new method for three-dimensional (3D) coastline deformationreconstruction using differentioal synthetic aperture radar interferometry (DInSAR). Thedeccorelation however, is main problem for DInSAR processing special in such tropical area asMalaysia due to heavy vegetation covers in land and along coastal waters. In this context, thisstudy has attempted to introduce a new technique for overcome the impact of deccorelation onphase unwrapping. The new method is based on an integration between fuzzy B-splinealgorithm and DInSAR method. DInSAR algorithm is involved two parts: (i) 3D map simulationwhich is based on interferogram simulation and (ii) satellite orbit parameters. 3D coastlinedeformation is realized by fuzzy B-spline algorithm with the midpoint displacement method andthe terrain roughness. Consequently, fuzzy B-spline is used to eliminate topographic phase fromthe interferograms. The study shows the DInSAR technique provides information aboutcoastline deformation with accuracy of ± 0.2 m/year between ground data and fuzzy-B-splineInSAR technique.
