Next generation of wireless broadband network such as WiMAX MMR networks and LTE Advanced support high quality multimedia services which clearly imposed the need for high data transmission rate. Most of the current broadband operates at high frequency and has limited transmission range. Multi-hop relaying technology is seen as an efficient solution that could enhance coverage and improves system capacity. However, as the number of hops increase, the delay and the probability of packet lost also increase. The efficient utilization of network resources in multi-hop relay somehow could facilitate the performance issues in such system. Routing and scheduling are the resource control functions that need to be designed efficiently in order to achieve best system performance. Since both of these functions are inter-related to each other, many works proposed to integrate routing and scheduling for multi-hop networks. The goal of this research paper is to review works related to joint routing and scheduling algorithm for MMR network.
