Recently, in most of the countries smart card technology are used in many applications such as banking, transportation, telecommunication, internet security, loyalty and many other industries. Although smart cards are being used in a number of ways around the world, particularly in Western Europe and East Asia that are progressive in their adoption of technology, in many corners of the world, there are dozens of developing countries that this technology is not used in a large scale because they still do not concentrate on the importance of user adoption of new technologies and the technology is not well defined. More than three decades of research on information technology (IT) acceptance has made this field one of the most established research areas in management information systems. Furthermore, researches in IT acceptance have identified the awareness as one of the factor that can influence on smart card adoption. The aim of this study is to investigate the affect of user awareness on smart card technology acceptance. In order to attain this goal, a survey was conducted among the 874 students of five private universities in Iran to measure their awareness and acceptance of smart card technology.
