Abstract
This work utilizes a new approach which based on least square method to retrieve sea surface salinity (SSS) from MODIS satellite data. In doing so, linear model is expressed in matrix notation and the vector of unknown parameters estimated by least squares and certain assumptions are considered about the elements of error vector. The result shows the high correlation coefficient at r2 of 0.96 and RMSE value of ±0.37 psu. In conclusion, the modified formula of SSS has improved mapping of SSS from MODIS data. This new approach can be used as tool to estimate SSS.
