Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the direct effect of networking behaviour on employee performance in a private university in Malaysia. This study also assessed the indirect effect of the networking behaviour on employee performance through performance appraisals practices. The study sampled 300 employees in one of private university in Malaysia who has served more than 5 years in the university. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaires and analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) in SMART-PLS 3.0. By using the bootstrapping technique, the study found that the direct relationship between internal networking behaviour and performance appraisals is significant at a=0.05. However, external networking behaviour has no effect on employee performance. Internal networking behaviour has no indirect effect on employee performance through performance appraisals practices, while external networking behaviour has significant indirect effect on employee performance through performance appraisals practices. The findings have suggested important implications to private education industry in Malaysia in their effort to improve their employee performance.
