Abstract
This paper presents the design of frequency reconfigurable metamaterial antenna by showing the effect of biasing line position along the antenna length in the operating frequency. The design started by enhancing the bandwidth of the antenna by considering the CRLH-TL parameter to allow frequency sensing. Bandwidth enhancement was achieved by optimizing the position of the slot in top patch to cover more bands. The slot at the top patch represents left-handed capacitance CL. The antenna is reconfigured by applying frequency reconfiguration technique by creating slot along the shorted strip in right hand side. Biasing line is introduced to provide smooth switching process during reconfiguration. The effect of biasing line on antenna was investigated and analyzed. Single switch was used for reconfiguring the wideband antenna which covered (2.3-5.4) GHz to narrowband that resonate at 5.2 GHz. The software used for the simulation work is Computer Simulation Technology (CST). By considering the results obtained, the antenna can be used for indoor WLAN application for shorter range connections and frequency sensing for cognitive radio applications.
