Abstract

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for renewable sources of electricity. Conventional street lighting is typically switched on and off frequently. In this research, an automated street light control solution based on PIR motion sensors and timers is proposed. In this system, photovoltaic power (PV) is used as the main supply, batteries as storage, and fuel cells (FC) as a backup. On the lighting side, Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs are used and dimmer controlled by relay. This design uses a 250W solar panel with 8A x 31.25V (200Ah) batteries. It is designed with a 12-hour daily run time and is controlled by a timer. Additionally, the graph will show the total consumption of streetlight solar systems. Solar LED Streetlight system reduces the cost further, resulting in a more energy-efficient lighting system. Economic analysis is also conducted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the cost installation, resulting in RM 1896.00 for the one pole streetlight, compared to RM 2650.00 for conventional streetlights, resulting in a 39.77% cost reduction. With the proposed system, one pole can save 1200W of energy within 12 hours per day.
