Abstract
This paper presents a systematic approach to identifying social actors in online news corpora. Social actors can refer to people, groups, organisations, or other entities that take part in social events and activities. However, identifying social actors in the news corpora might be difficult due to the variety of ways in which social actors might be referred to. Thus, this paper would first provide a quick overview on the significance of the systematic approach used for identifying social actors in online news corpora. Following that, the systematic approach to identifying social actors is presented in detail. This includes the corpus development and corpus analysis of the news corpora. The application of the systematic methodological approach was then reported based on a research project on identifying social actors in online news corpora. Finally, this paper concludes the discussion with potential areas for future research. The proposed methodological approach holds great importance as it can assist in the analysis of media discourse and improve our understanding of how public opinions are formed. A comprehensive comprehension of the media can aid in the identification of more effective strategies to promote critical thinking abilities among the readers.
