Abstract
Glenoid implant conformity has been widely studies, however, very few studies discussing on the survival rate of the PMMA cements in variation of glenoid implant conformities. Thus, aim of this study to conduct an in-silico study via Finite Element Analysis, to analyse three types of glenoid conformity (non-conform, conform & hybrid) in three load conditions towards survival rate of PMMA cement. A load of 750 N was applied to centre, anterior and posterior region, which represent activities of daily living for elder people. In overall, hybrid conformity implant shown the best cement survival rate in all three load conditions. However, our findings showed that, when the implant was loaded with eccentric load, the survival rate decreases. As a conclusion, in term of cement survival rate, the hybrid implant shows the best compared to conform and non-conform. Additionally, the cement is safest when loaded with concentric load. From our findings, we would suggest that, regardless of conformity, further improvement of implant design is needed to cope with this high stress during eccentric load.
