Abstract

Heat is strongly related with the combustion process. This is due to the main purpose of the combustion process that converts the chemical energy content, in the fuel, into heat before it will further be converted into work energy. In order to reach sustainability in terms of operation and durability for the ICE, a thermal management system is applied using a heat exchanging device. In secondary flow enhancement technique, vortices are created intentionally to the main flow using vortex generators purposely to introduce and exploit the secondary flows. It was said that the associated pressure drop across the fin-and-tube heat exchanger is relatively low for the secondary flow enhancement technique as compared to the main flow enhancement technique. Therefore, in this paper, the discussions are made on one of the prospective methods to improve the performance of thermal management system, specifically on fin-and-tube heat exchanger, known as secondary flow enhancement technique using the vortex generator.
