Abstract
Development of nanotechnology has open ups new area for nanosized material to be used as the carrier for enzyme immobilization. Electrospun nanofiber mat is one of the various type of nanomaterials which can be fabricated simply by electrospinning. It has becoming one of the chosen materials as carrier for enzyme immobilization as it can be used as a membrane in the chemical reactor and easy separation process after reaction. This paper reviewed on the factors affecting the electrospinning process during the fabrication of nanofiber mats such as polymer properties, voltage supply, flow rate and distance between the needle tips to the collector. Besides, it also discussed the recent studies on the implementation of electrospun nanofiber mat as carrier for enzyme immobilization based on the immobilization methods used. The advantages and disadvantages of immobilization methods on electrospun nanofiber mats were compared. Various composite of electrospun nanofiber mat is foresee as the future for enzyme immobilization carrier in enzyme technology fields.
