Abstract
The Water in diesel emulsion or W/D emulsion has become one of interest subject in the alternative fuel due to its potential on solving the main issues of diesel engine which are in reducing emissions as well as better energy efficiency. However, the main issue of W/D emulsion is the dependency of surfactant to make the new-made emulsion kept stabilize create a huge barrier for W/D emulsion to be commercialized. Hence, the Real-Time Non-Surfactant Emulsification System (RTES) was introduced to eliminate the dependency of surfactants. For this study, the RTES system was tested by using 2 main parameters high shear mixer with static mixer (RTES-SM) and high shear mixer with ultrasonic transducer (RTES). These non-surfactant emulsions made by the RTES, and RTES-SM were tested on the single-cylinder diesel engine and compared with B10 diesel fuel. The engine testing was conducted with different loading conditions of 2kW, 4kW, and 6kW with the same engine speed of 2400rpm. The result showed that the RTES had better performance with an average reduction of 13.19% for BsFC and a 16.52% increment for BTE compared to B10 fuel.
