Abstract
In this study, the two-time scale method (Yasukawa, 2006; Skejic and Faltinsen, 2008) is applied to the simulation of drifting and oscillating motions of a deadship in wind and waves. To obtain the validation data of the simulations, free-drifting model tests are conducted in a tank using a bulk carrier model. The tank tests show that the deadship drifts with a large hull drift angle over 80° in wind and waves, and its characteristic is independent of the initial heading condition. The present method can simulate the drift behavior of the deadship in wind and waves with practical accuracy. To explain the drifting feature of the deadship, the motion stability of the deadship is analytically discussed.
